Abstract
The structure of “cake” defect is a porous metal matrix with numerous inclusions: slag inclusions, coarse clusters of titanium nitrides and carbonitrides and complex composition oxides. Contamination of metal by deoxidation products, oxidation of the metal stream during casting increases the probability of formation of refractory phase in the form of a cluster of titanium nitride particles and the emergence of “cakes”.
